🌿 GREEN BEANS Your Simple First Purée Guide

🔪 PREP:
Wash and trim both ends of 2–3 handfuls of green beans.
Cut in half to steam more evenly.

🔥 COOK:
Steam for 8–10 minutes until soft.
Ensure they’re tender to reduce stringiness when blending.

🥄 PORTION:
Blend with cooled boiled water until smooth — sieve if needed for early stages.
Start with 5–10 teaspoons per meal.
Tip: Add a cube of apple or pear to sweeten for fussy eaters.

❄️ STORE:
Portion into silicone trays or freezer bags using a scoop.
Store flat, label with date — keeps 48 hours in fridge or 2 months in freezer.

🍼 What about milk?
Mix in freshly expressed breast milk or just-prepared formula just before serving, not before freezing.
Use only water for first tries — baby's milk feeds still do the heavy lifting for nutrition.

🍦 How to Portion

Use an ice cream scoop or tablespoon to portion blended green beans evenly.
Place into freezer-safe silicone trays or labelled zip-top bags.
Press scoops flat in bags to save space.
Label with date + “Green Beans.”

✅ Tip: 1 bag of green beans yields approx. 8–10 portions (1–2 tbsp each).

🧊 Freezer & Storage Tips

• Let purée cool to room temperature before freezing.
• Store flat in bags or containers for up to 2 months.
• Fridge-safe for 48 hours.
• Never refreeze after thawing. Discard leftovers from baby’s bowl.

💡 Also suitable for BLW: Steamed whole green beans (soft and string-free) can be served as finger foods once baby shows readiness. We focus on purée for prep ease and early digestion.

💡 What to Do with Leftover Green Bean Purée

Once baby is eating more variety, use frozen green bean purée to gently boost flavour and fibre in everyday meals:

  • 🍝 Stir into blended pasta sauces or risottos for a green veggie boost
  • 🥔 Mix with mashed potato or root veg for extra texture and colour
  • 🍳 Add into scrambled eggs or baby omelettes
  • 🥣 Stir through soft grains like rice, couscous or quinoa
  • 🥄 Blend into soups or broths for an iron-rich veggie addition

🎯 Even just one spoonful adds nutrients to familiar meals — no waste, more taste!
