🥦 CAULIFLOWER Your Simple First Purée Guide

🔪 PREP:
Wash and chop a small cauliflower into florets.
Rinse well and remove any tough or browned ends.

🔥 COOK:
Steam florets for 6–8 minutes until soft and tender.
Avoid overcooking — it can become watery or sulphurous.

🥄 PORTION:
Blend with cooled boiled water until smooth and creamy.
Start with 5–10 teaspoons per meal.
Tip: If baby finds the flavour too plain, try blending with carrot or squash for natural sweetness.

❄️ STORE:
Scoop into silicone trays or portion with a spoon into bags.
Freeze flat in labelled freezer bags — good for 2 months, 48 hrs in fridge.

🍼 What about milk?
Stick to water during prep. Add fresh breast milk or just-prepared formula at serving time only, not before freezing.
Baby still gets most nutrients from regular milk feeds in early months.

🍦 How to Portion Cauliflower

Use a scoop or spoon to divide purée into equal portions.
Place into silicone trays or flat zip-top freezer bags.
Press down lightly to flatten scoops for easier stacking.
Label with date + “Cauliflower.”

✅ Tip: One small cauliflower makes around 8–10 portions (1–2 tbsp each).

🧊 Freezer & Storage Tips

• Let cool before freezing.
• Store flat for up to 2 months.
• Keeps in fridge for 48 hours.
• Discard leftovers from baby’s bowl and do not refreeze thawed purée.

💡 Also suitable for BLW: Steam whole florets until very soft and let baby hold and explore. We focus on purée for ease, digestion, and confidence-building.

💡 What to Do with Leftover Cauliflower Purée

Cauliflower purée is creamy and neutral — perfect for boosting flavour and nutrition in everyday meals:

  • 🥔 Mix into mashed potato for a lighter texture
  • 🧀 Stir into pasta sauces or mac and cheese for an iron-rich creamy base
  • 🍳 Add to scrambled eggs or omelettes for a veggie hit
  • 🧁 Use in savoury muffins or veggie tots
  • 🥣 Blend into soups or stews to thicken naturally

🎯 Great way to use up frozen cubes once baby moves beyond purée-only feeding!
